We need interested people to get involved. Although we succeeded in getting the by-law changed, it was apparent through our process that people really didn’t understand the threat and what was at stake. Education through community involvement and programs could help others realize the importance of the nature that surrounds them, giving them the tools needed to take notice and be proactive in small ways. Every effort, not matter how big or small, contributes to the whole.
It is important, and worthwhile, not only for us in the whole of the City of Hamilton, but also for other cities in Ontario, for all of our country. We are all experiencing the same difficulties in balancing growth and development with the protection of the natural ecosystem in our ever-spreading path.
As we expand and make plans to accommodate the population growth, we MUST plan to integrate the natural assets around us.
